Obstacles and Life from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

August has been a very busy month with life getting in the way of my quilting!  Darn ...

First off .... what are the obstacles?  This little guy keeps sleeping on my arm and preventing me from working on anything.  He recently had a bout of seizures again and I just don't have the heart to move him off of me.  I have come to the understanding that he won't have a long life, but he will have his best life ever!  Poor little guy!

Still .... here and there another row of these hexies got made.  This is the back ...

July Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

For July, the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, the number to work on is #1 and this is it:

Alas, that project will be NOT be worked on after all.  There is a wedding quilt that needs to be started and made this month and that is what will be worked on instead.  My niece already knows about this quilt, so the pattern can be shown.
My Chevron Log blocks will continue to be worked on.  I try to get at least 2 blocks done per day.  The QAYG bit will be done later.
If time permits .... perhaps this fabric might ...

May Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Oh, what a month May has been for me.  Busy, busy, busy with appointments for hubby.

So, did anything get accomplished?  For the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, nothing got done on this star project.  I did find the book (which was in the bottom of the bin), read through the next round of instructions and just put the book back in the bin with the project and closed the lid.  Oh dear!  That doesn't sound like a good start on getting this ufo worked on.

So, what did I do?

I worked on finishing this ufo instead and so ...

May Challenges from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

May has come ..... the grass is green ..... things are starting to sprout up in the garden.

With May comes new challenges.

For the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge 2024, this is my UFO to work on.  This project dates back to 2014.  I took a class when my friend Debra came up to our guild and taught us this pattern.   The book is someplace and I will need to find it to figure out how to do the rest.  If not, then I will need to put on my thinking cap and figure it out!

I will also still work on my ...

February and March Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Another month and another quilt done for both no-blog Mary and myself.

This is Mary's (before on the left and after with the binding) February quilt:

This is my quilt (more on this in another post):

For March, we have chosen our quilts.

These are Mary's.  Aren't those penguins adorable?   She is going to do these three small mini quilts for her challenge.

This will be my quilt:

Mary mentioned to me that she is still pulling quilts from her closet and she still has bins in the basement with quilts to bind.  Holy Moly ..... just how ...

Summer Picnic from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

There, my January binding challenge is done.  Yeah me!

This was a LOT of hand stitching, but, so worth it in the end.  Whenever this quilt is shown, everyone remarks at all the embroidery that I did.  Nooooo ...... those images that you see are all from a pre-printed panel.  All I did was fussy cut them down to size and appliqued them onto a hexagon frame.

A mix of white, cream and off-white fabrics have been used throughout.  Below, it looks more beige on the right hand side, but it is just a shadow.

Then, I've also been asked ...

February Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

No-blog Mary and I have pulled out our quits to bind this month.

Mary pulled out this sweet child's quilt:

My quilt will be this one:
This one might be a 'maybe' if a certain little boy gets moved to a big boy bed.
Cherish your day, cherish your life!

#6 for the Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

The Chookshed Stitchers Challenge is off to a good start.  Well, for me anyway!

#6 was pulled for January.

Now, I could choose what I like and have chosen to work on a donation quilt.  There will be a drop-off date in May and this is a good start.  I would like to have two to donate, but if only one gets done, I'm good with that.  These blocks don't look like much, but they will make up a lap size quilt.  You will just have to wait and see!  LOL

Next, some frankenpiecing of batting pieces for ...

November Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, both no-blog Mary and I met our monthly challenge.

Mary hand quilted her small piece and then bound it.  You can see the before and after.

Then, she outdid herself and made a diaper changing pad and bound that one too!  Bravo Mary!
For me, both these quilts were done and donated.  These were shown in this November 6th post with more details.

Life is busy for both of us right now and we may just skip the December challenge.  If by chance, I do find time, then this is the quilt that I will bind.
Cherish your day ...

Binding Challenge and a Bit of This and That from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

October was a good month for me and no-blog Mary.

Mary finished her quilt as well as adding some big stitch quilting to it.  I'm so glad the heat of the summer is over and Mary was able to resume her binding challenge with me.

Mary reached into a bag and viola .... this is her quilt to bind for November.
My October binding challenge quilt will be shown in a later post ..... so stay tuned for that reveal.

But, for November, these are the quilts that I will be doing.  For sure, the first two (they are for donation ...

September Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

"Churn Dash-Dash".  A funny title, isn't it?

Still, this quilt is done and can be added to the pile of finished quilts and can be used now at any time .... and I'm so thrilled with it!  It will be going on my bed soon as the nights are chilling down.

My hubby helped me display the quilt over the railing.  As you can see .... leaves are on the ground.  Autumn is definitely here and trees have been displaying their colours for quite a few weeks now.  Some trees started to turn colour back in August.
A close-up of ...

July Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, well ..... I got my quilt done and in plenty of time!

This quilt came with me to a couple of babysitting adventures.  I prefer to bring projects with me that don't have pins that could get dropped onto a rug for a couple of Irish twins to find.  This quilt also came out to the cottage.  It has been well travelled.

Done and washed and dried.  Nice and soft and crinkly.

The rain shower has finally passed on and out of our area .... but I had to wait for things to dry up a bit before trying to ...

Couldn't help myself! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

As my red/white hexi top is being sewn together, I just had to start playing around with the red hexies in the borders.   This is just a start .... many more red hexies to be made.

The panels on the left have all been sewn together so that I can get a head start on placing my red hexies.

Here is a close-up of the hexies that have been joined together so far.

All my red scraps were pulled, ironed and ready to be used.  Can my borders be made entirely out of this pile?  Only time will tell but ...

Cheating hexies from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Now that all the white hexies are complete and pinned in place, it is time now for the sewing together of those hexies.

After about a week of working here and there, the panel on the left is now complete.  Yippee!

This was the start of the harvest moon at the cottage this past weekend.  I went out later to try and catch a better photo, but the mosquitoes were so bad, that I quickly ran back inside the cottage.  So, this photo will just have to do, but take it from me, the red moon in the night sky ...

June Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

June is almost over and no-blog Mary and I did accomplish a lot this month.

Mary got her May quilt done this month.  I'm just so glad she hung in there and got it done.  It was a big quilt and it has been too hot for her lately.

Even though this next item is not a quilt, she finished this sweater.  It was an ufo and that is what Mary will be working on for the next few hot months.  UFO's.  Such a good thing!  There may also be a new start ...... LOL
My June challenge was ...

May and June Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well ..... we had a slip in the challenge.

No-blog Mary decided she needed a break from everyday life and had a vacation in New Orleans instead.  You know, we all need that in our lives sometimes and how good it is to just up and go and enjoy life.

I had to laugh when she sent me this photo of her binding!  She said that she will work on this quilt for June but not pull anything else.  She also said that because they don't have a/c in their home and summers are hot and humid in Toronto ...

Busy as .... from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

This past week was busy and so is this week.  My Hubby has one more week with the Parkinson's program and then he has homework to do to keep up the exercises and tips for getting up when he falls, for putting on a winter coat walking, writing and so on .....

He did have a memory test and didn't do so well.  Based on this, the Doctor is reporting him to DOT and they will send him a letter revoking his driver's license.  I'm happy about this as he was doing some funny things while driving ...

April and May Binding Challenge from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well .... we did it again!  April came and went and we both have another quilt done.

This is no-blog Mary's quilt.  The before on the left and with the binding on the right.  Mary said that she doesn't even remember making this quilt .... so it is very, very OLD!

This is my tulip quilt and I will be showing more of the quilt on another post.

For our May challenge, Mary dipped her hand into a black garbage bag (yes, these bags holding her quilts gives me the chills) and pulled out this quilt.  Surprise!  This is another ...
